Licensed gas fitting across the Illawarra

Gas work is one of the few jobs around the house where doing it wrong does not just cost money. In NSW it has to be done by a licensed gas fitter and it has to be certified. Brad is licensed for gas fitting, licence 182283C, and has been doing it for 23 years.

What it usually is

• A new cooktop or oven that needs connecting, or an old one that needs disconnecting so the kitchen can come out.
• A gas heater to install, service or move.
• A gas hot water system, storage or continuous flow, new or replacement.
• A smell of gas. Sometimes it is a pilot light out. Sometimes it is a fitting or a corroded pipe. You do not want to guess which.
• A new gas line for an outdoor kitchen, a barbecue point or a bayonet fitting for a heater.
• A compliance certificate for work that was done without one, or a check before a house sale.
• Converting from bottled gas to natural gas or the other way round.

What Brad does

He turns up, looks at the job and tells you plainly what it needs. Then he does the work to the standard, pressure tests it and issues the compliance certificate. That certificate is your record that the work was done by a licensed fitter. Keep it with the house papers, you will want it when you sell.

For a new appliance, he checks the gas supply can actually feed it. A big cooktop on the end of a skinny old line will never work properly no matter how good the appliance is. He connects it, tests it and makes sure it burns clean.

For a suspected leak, he tests the whole installation, finds the leak and fixes it. If it is a dodgy fitting, that is a quick job. If it is an old pipe that has corroded, he will show you and talk you through the options.

He installs all brands of appliance and hot water unit and is not tied to any of them, so the recommendation is about your house rather than somebody's sales target.

If you smell gas

Do not flick switches on or off. Do not light anything. Open the windows and doors, turn the gas off at the meter or the bottle if you can get to it safely, get everyone outside, then ring. If the smell is strong and you cannot turn it off, ring your gas supplier's emergency line first, then ring Brad.

After hours

A gas smell is a genuine emergency and Brad treats it that way. After-hours call-outs are available. There is an extra charge that depends on the job, and Brad will tell you the call-out cost on the phone before he leaves.
